Men's Lunch Bunch
Leader: Pastor Fred Eichner

Presenting What it was like "To work for CIA,” a former operative told of his work for 29 years during the time of the cold war. Most of it was under cover, nine of the years overseas. He trained over one hundred agents in "spycraft". The presentation covered organizational structure/functions; how the agency operates in other countries, particularly traveling and handling foreign agents; meeting challenges of working in hostile places. Emphasis was also placed on careers in CIA, requirements of personnel and constraints on their activities and work. Several "war stories" were related, sanitized to preclude revealing still perceived sensitive information. It was tailored to include but minimize some, but not all, the popular culture surrounding public perceptions of the Agency according to James Bond. No one at the meeting was "killed after being told."

A Retired Navy Captain gave vivid descriptions of What it was like “To Command An Aircraft Carrier Flight Deck.” Himself a decorated fighter pilot, he depicted the massive size of the carrier as a “floating city.” Personnel numbered 5,000 and every needed service was available. There were complete medical services including 5 physicians and 2 anesthesiologists. Complete daily food services were provided for the entire population. There were commodities to meet all needs, from barber shops to entertainment. Movies were a popular feature. WWII carriers were about 47,000 tons and delivered propeller planes. By the time of the Viet Nam War the huge ships had grown to 90,000 tons and could house 90 jet fighter planes. These vessels required replenishment of food supplies and fuel every three days.
